The Chapter House

The Chapter house was where the Abbot and the monastic community would meet daily. They would listen to a reading from a chapter of the Rule of St. Benedict. Hear the faults would be confessed and business transacted. The 12th century vaulted ceiling is of architectural importance.

At the far end of the Chapter House three stone coffins can be seen. In the walls on either side coffins have been built into the walls. These have had holes cut into them in places, possibly by grave robbers.
