Celebration of decades of Public Service by Bernard Atha

Bernard Atha OBE

Bernard, who hold the record of Leeds longest serving councillor, was first elected in 1957 and represented Kirkstall Ward from 1970 to 2014, he was elected Lord Mayor in 2000 – 2001 a highlight of which was to welcome Nelson Mandela to Leeds to be granted honorary freeman of Leeds.

Bernard is also involved numerous arts organisations and charities helping disabled People for which he has been awarded a CBE and an OBE. Bernard has also appeared in numerous films and television productions.
