End of the Line for the Abbey Light Railway

Many of you will have been wondering what was going to happen to the Abbey Light Railway since Peter Lowe, who set it up and ran it from 1976, died in October.

News broke on Tuesday in the Yorkshire Evening Post, that the locomotives themselves are being sold to the Welsh Highland Railway in Portmadog tomorrow, with the tracks and sheds to be dismantled.

Volunteers had hoped to keep the railway open, but complications with insurance and maintenance meant that it had to close.
