Love Leeds Charity Shop Opening Event

November 24th, 2012 | Posted by Jenny.Budd in Charity | Events | Our Community
Dear Readers,
The Love Leeds Charity Shop is having an opening event which they are inviting all residents of Kirkstall to attend. Kirkstall, as we all know, is a popular residential location for students and so we are happy to be able to support this cause as well as increase ties between Kirkstall residents, Kirkstall Matters and students.
“The Love Leeds Charity Shop is part of the Leave Leeds Tidy project that is run in collaboration with all universities in Leeds, the city council and other official bodies. All the money raised in the shop will go into funding Leave Leeds Tidy initiatives, such as promoting green living, recycling and reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill.
One of the main projects it runs is Green Streets that collects unwanted items from students leaving their accommodation and redistributes them across Leeds, which has saved over 60 tonnes of unwanted items from going to landfill.
The shop will be available to book in the evenings by societies and community groups to hold outward facing workshops promoting green living in Leeds. This could range, for example, from learning to sew and repair clothes or an educational session on shopping ethically in Leeds. In addition, we have a craft corner that external businesses can book to sell their own crafts.
We are hosting a launch party for the Love Leeds Charity Shop on Monday 26th from 12noon-3.30pm and we would love for your community to join us at some point during the afternoon.  There will be lots of free tea, cake and coffee, along with live music, quizzes and prizes.”
